The main page provides a deluge of information. It is fantastically designed with all of your financial needs in mind.

Each financial component, including bank accounts, credit cards, investment accounts, stock prices, bill reminders, net worth and exchange rates, is separated into individual boxes on the main page. Even if you have no more than 10 minutes to spend with your budget each day, you could look at this homepage and know exactly how financially fit you are, how your stocks are doing, and whether you have any bills that must be paid or that are overdue.

You can create an account within this money software that will manage every financial facet in your life. Whether it is your checking or savings account, credit card, investment account, mortgage, retirement, college tuition, auto or other sub-account, this budgeting software will help you keep track of it all. Our favorite banking and bill feature, the payment calendar, showcases these accounts in an organized and visually appealing manner. The payment calendar is the perfect solution for scheduling bills and remembering exactly when they are due. Simply click on the day a bill is due, enter the payee information along with amount owed, frequency of the payment and a memo to yourself about the payment. Users can also schedule paycheck information.

Each account is reconciled within the money software. Expenditures from your credit card, checks or bank card are now extremely easy to track. In conjunction with the payment calendar and financial calculators, principal and interest payments are automatically calculated within your specific accounts.
Having the option for bill pay within the money software is a convenient feature. We were disappointed, however, that although this feature is offered, not all banks and credit lenders will support application-based bill payments. This obviously is not the fault of the money software, but we advise checking with your bank before you set up, and rely on, the bill pay service within the application.

On the left-hand side of every page within the money software, there is a list of the graphs and reports available that can be accessed whenever needed.

The information that is displayed with graphs is easy to read and understand. For each category, there is a pie chart and line graph with brilliant colors that clearly display where your money is being spent. These types of graphs showcase your spending habits and highlight which expenses could be cut back on or cut out entirely. Financial information reported through graphs includes the following:

  • Expenses
  • Income
  • Income and Expenses
  • Account Balance
  • Asset Allocation
  • Net Worth
  • Currency History

The rest of your financial information is detailed in reports such as: cash flow, detailed income and expenses, and capital gains. These reports are customized according to date or category, and can be saved and exported to Excel or put into a favorites folder for later use.

This money software employs the use of categorizing and tagging systems. For every expense, a tag can be manually added for deductibles, business expenses and so forth. Moneydance will automatically categorize all inflows and outflows as Value Added Tax (VAT) or Goods Services Tax (GST). At the end of the fiscal year, this VAT/GST report can be generated and used for tax purposes.
